Your role in the mission:
Type One Energy is seeking a highly experiencedSoftware Engineer - Realtime Control to support the development, deployment, and operation of our Plasma Control System (PCS).This roleis responsible forimplementingthereal-time control functionality that directly enableshigh performance, high-availabilityoperation of the plasma at thecoreof ourstellarator fusion power plant.
The successful candidate will work closely with the PCSlead scientistand CODAC (Control, Data Access, and Communication) engineers to design, implement, test, andmaintainreal-time control software and supporting hardware infrastructure. This position plays a critical role in ensuringreliableand high-performance plasma operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Architectaperformant,user-centered,high-availabilityreal-timePCSinfrastructure.
- ImplementPCSfunctionality (real-time execution and configuration) as defined by the PCS Lead,including butnotlimited to:
- Control algorithms
- Finite state machines for supervisory logic
- Digitalfiltering
- Computer vision
- Machine-learninginference
- Translating mathematical models intoexecutable real-time code
- Mentor junior software engineers and contribute to a collaborative, high-performingengineering culture.
Whatyou’llneed
- B.S. or M.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
- 7+ years of experience implementing real-time control systems in production or operational environments.
- Strongexpertisein embedded systems and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Deep practical knowledge of concurrent, multi-threaded, multi-processor, and networked computation architectures.
- Mastery of C/C++ development
- Experienceimplementingdigital filters
- Extensive experience implementing continuous integration and automated testing pipelines.
- Experience with deterministicreal-timecommunicationhardwareand protocols(e.g. TSN or similar)
- Significant experienceselecting, configuring, andinterfacing withhigh-speed, real-time DAQ hardware.
- Demonstrated success leading and delivering complex software development projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing and implementing plasma control systems for fusion or other high-energy physics devices.
- Experience deploying machine learning algorithms in real-time or embedded environments.
- Familiarity withhigh-availability architectures.
- Experience supporting operational scientific or industrial facilities.
