Focused Energy is a fusion energy startup with the goal of generating unlimited clean energy to responsibly meet future global demand. With the use and commercialization of laser-induced inertial fusion, a clean and highly efficient power generation technology is coming within reach, suitable to ensure a secure and scalable future energy supply.

The Laser team delivers highly technical project work that depends on the timely availability of components, services, and consumables. Today, engineers and project managers spend a meaningful amount of time coordinating purchase requests, following up on deliveries, and aligning with procurement and finance — time that would be better spent on technical execution.

This Working Student role exists to take ownership of day‐to‐day procurement coordination for the Laser team. You’ll ensure that purchase requests are placed correctly, deliveries are tracked transparently, and stakeholders stay aligned — while also helping improve the underlying processes that make all of this smoother over time.

If you’re structured, reliable, and enjoy turning messy workflows into something clear and predictable, this role gives you hands-on experience at the intersection of operations, procurement, and technical teams.

What you’ll do:

  • Creating and submitting purchase requests and orders in the internal procurement system based on input from project managers and technical teams
  • Tracking order confirmations, delivery dates, and shipment status, and proactively following up when timelines change
  • Identifying recurring issues or bottlenecks and helping improve the process through, templates, checklists, standardized request intake and implementation of automation and AI Tools.
  • Maintaining a clear and simple overview (e.g. tracker or dashboard) of open orders and delivery status for the Laser team
  • Coordinating with procurement and finance on invoice alignment, PO matching, cost center clarification, and documentation completeness
  • Acting as the organizational interface between Laser project teams, technical experts, procurement, and finance, reducing interruptions and streamlining communication

Who you are:

  • You are currently enrolled as a student (e.g., business, engineering, STEM, or similar) and available to work part‐time during the semester from our Darmstadt office
  • A structured and reliable working style, with the ability to manage multiple open topics and follow through
  • Strong communication skills and confidence coordinating across different teams and stakeholders in English
  • Solid practical skills with Excel or Google Sheets and openness to AI toolchains
  • Ability to create clear documentation, trackers, and short process descriptions
  • Comfort learning and working with internal systems and procurement workflows
  • High attention to detail and reliability (POs, delivery dates, documentation matter)
  • Proactive communication and follow‐up
  • Strong organizational skills and good prioritization in a fast‐moving environment
  • A collaborative mindset and ease working with both technical and non‐technical stakeholders
