Experimental Physicist/Plasma Scientist
Do you want to help us fast-track the transition to commercial fusion power?
We are continuously interested in connecting with people who want to be part of the long-term journey of developing advanced experimental and plasma science capabilities.
As our experimental programs and technology continue to evolve, we are building competence across several areas within experimental physics, plasma diagnostics, scientific computing, and data analysis. We welcome people from a broad range of backgrounds who are excited about contributing to challenging scientific and technical problems in a collaborative and hands-on environment.
Your role as an Experiment Physicist / Plasma Scientist
As an Experimental Physicist / Plasma Scientist, you will play a key role in how we design and implement our scientific experiments and data analysis. You will work closely with other physicists and data analysts, diagnostics system developers, as well as the theory and simulation group.
You will participate as a subject matter expert during experimental campaigns and advise on the direction of diagnostics development, experimental strategies and data analysis methods. As a person you are a team player, self-driven, service-minded and hands-on. You should enjoy a dynamic work environment within a fast-growing organization entering the global arena.
Knowledge, skills and experience
We believe you will be a good fit if you have a background with some of the following:
Core experience:
- Hands-on experience and expertise in experiment design, physics data analysis method development, implementation and use, ranging from simple methods, to underlying physics or detector theory and simulation, to the analysis of experimental signatures.
Additional valuable experience:
- PhD in plasma physics, experimental physics, or related field with a track record of scientific publications.
- Knowledge and experience of plasma or data analysis software design and implementation.
- Hands-on experience with experimental physics experiment design.
- Experience working in fast-paced, collaborative experimental environments.
Example areas we are interested in:
- Fusion specific topics such as Thomson scattering and Langmuir probes, and open field line plasma topologies.
- Tomography, Interferometry, Spectroscopy and Image analysis.
- Time series analysis and filtering.
- Detector calibration procedures.
- Statistical analysis and simulation methods.
