Electrical Technician
This role requires a versatile technician who can seamlessly transition between supporting the build of high-current power supplies , assembling electrical distribution panels, and executing the physical installation of facility infrastructure. The technician will play a critical role in the hardware bring-up, debugging, and overall electrical integration of a cutting-edge fusion energy system.
Key Responsibility Areas:
• Infrastructure Installation: Support the physical installation and cabling of MV/LV switchgear, transformers, distribution panels, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
• Facility Support: Assist in integrating auxiliary electrical systems and balance-of-plant (BoP) infrastructure, providing electrical connections for cryogenics, vacuum, cooling, and HVAC systems.
• Testing & Validation: Set up testbeds and perform hardware bring-up, signal probing, and parameter optimization under staged load conditions.
• Hardware Debugging: Perform board-level debugging, soldering, and rework on custom printed circuit boards (PCBs).
• Documentation: Read, interpret, and provide field markups for single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and cable schedules.
Ideal Experience & Skillsets:
Required Qualifications
• Associate’s degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in Electrical Technology, Electronics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience as an electrical technician in industrial, R&D, or high-power environments.
• Proven experience building, wiring, and installing electrical distribution panels, power supplies, and control cabinets.
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including schematics, P&IDs, and single-line diagrams.
• Proficiency with lab measurement tools, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and electronic loads.
• Strong understanding of strict electrical safety standards, including LOTO protocols and NFPA 70E / NEC.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience operating in fusion, accelerator, or specialized industrial R&D environments.
• Familiarity with high-voltage and medium-voltage distribution equipment (transformers, protective relays, switchgear).
• Hands-on experience with PCB rework, fine-pitch soldering, and analog/mixed-signal circuit troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with mechanical integration, including cable trays, conduit bending, heat sink layouts, and cooling solutions.
Tools & Platforms
• Measurement & Lab Tools: Oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analyzers, signal generators, logic analyzers, and electronic loads.
• Assembly Tools: Soldering stations, crimpers, wire strippers, and general hand/power tools for mechanical integration.
• Documentation: Microsoft 365, SharePoint, JIRA, and familiarity with navigating CAD outputs (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
