The UK Government has established UK Fusion Energy (UKFE) Ltd , a subsidiary of UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), to lead the charge in delivering fusion energy through design and delivery of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) prototype fusion plant. UKFE is establishing itself, setting up the company, attracting talent, engaging with industry, developing a supply chain, and planning and constructing of the STEP prototype.
Fusion energy, crucial for combating climate change and ensuring energy independence, is expected to be commercially viable by mid-century. The UK, led by UKFE, aims for a prototype fusion plant, targeting first operations around 2040. UK Fusion Energy Ltd. will lead delivery, collaborating with industrial partners and building a fusion supply chain with an estimated global sector value of £7tn per year. Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Systems & SharePoint Manager to lead the strategy, governance, and continuous improvement of our SharePoint and Microsoft 365 environment across a complex and fast-paced organisation.
This is a unique opportunity to become the recognised Subject Matter Expert (SME) for SharePoint and M365, driving best practice in information management, collaboration, governance, and user experience. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of critical programmes, ensuring our digital platforms remain secure, scalable, user-focused, and aligned with organisational objectives.
Working closely with senior leaders, digital specialists, information security professionals, and external partners, you will champion innovative ways of working while helping to create a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
What You'll Be Doing
As the Systems & SharePoint Manager, you will:
- Own and lead the technical roadmap for SharePoint and Microsoft 365
- Drive the architecture, configuration, governance, and optimisation of collaboration platforms
- Develop and implement information management standards, retention policies, and governance frameworks
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, ISO 27001, and information security best practice
- Act as the primary point of contact and technical authority for SharePoint and M365
- Collaborate with Digital, Cyber Security, Enterprise Architecture, and Information Management teams to deliver aligned solutions
- Enhance user experience through training, engagement, adoption initiatives, and continuous improvement programmes
- Develop knowledge management approaches, including taxonomies, metadata structures, and knowledge repositories
- Build strong relationships with Microsoft specialists, consultants, and industry networks
- Champion a collaborative culture that promotes knowledge sharing, transparency, and operational excellence
About You
We're looking for a passionate and knowledgeable professional who combines strong technical expertise with excellent stakeholder management skills.
You will bring:
- Significant experience managing and developing SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 environments
- Strong understanding of SharePoint architecture, configuration, governance, and administration
- Experience implementing Information and Knowledge Management (KIM) principles and best practices
- Knowledge of GDPR, ISO 27001, information governance, and security frameworks
- Experience designing and implementing governance structures, access controls, retention policies, and compliance processes
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Power Platform, including Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, practical business language
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Experience delivering training, driving user adoption, and supporting organisational change

Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or a related field
- Experience in IT
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in SharePoint architecture and development
- Microsoft 365 certifications
- Experience of working within large-scale, regulated, or major infrastructure programmes
- Expertise in SharePoint Online, Power Platform, PowerShell scripting and modern web frameworks
- Cloud proficiency through deep knowledge of M365 and O365 products
- Effective communication and engagement skills
- Project management and delivery experience
