The Institute of Plasma Physics of the CAS (IPP) is looking for a new colleague for the Microwave Engineer/System Engineer position. The position is suitable for candidates with experience in designing or operating ECRH, ICRH, LH, or similar microwave systems for fusion devices. At IPP, we are building a new high-temperature plasma fusion experimental device: tokamak COMPASS Upgrade. This is a unique opportunity to work on the design of a multifrequency, high-power, state-of-the-art ECRH system from the design and procurement phase.
The job responsibilities will include a selection of the following tasks, depending on the candidate's skills and preferences.
Microwave Engineer / System Engineer related tasks
Microwave Engineering Activities: Supervise the design, manufacturing, testing, installation, and commissioning of various components of ECRH system. Participates on Factory Acceptance Test and executes the Site Acceptance and commissioning tests of ECRH system components
Technical Specifications and Contractor Management
Contribute to preparing technical specifications, and collaborate with contractors. Provide ongoing support for the installation and commissioning of ECRH systems. Work with control, instrumentation, vacuum, HV, and other staff engineers to optimize the system performance and respond to ongoing requests from research staff
Engineering Execution
Manage the engineering activities required for finalizing the design, procurement, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning of specific EC components. This includes Gyrotrons, High-Voltage Power Supplies, Launchers, Transmission Lines, Dummy Loads, and Control and Protection Systems. Ensure that all components meet the requirements for operational success.
Requirements
  • Min 2 years of experience working with ECRH systems or other relevant high voltage or RF devices.
  • Possess organizational and administrative skills
  • Able to communicate effectively with both scientists and engineers/technicians
  • Fluent in scientific / engineering English
  • Essential: Masters’ degree or equivalent in physics, radiofrequency, electrical engineering, or other relevant discipline;
  • Advantageous: PhD degree or equivalent in ECRH design, HV PS engineering fields, or other relevant discipline
  • The required education degree(s) may be substituted by extensive professional experience involving similar work responsibilities
