Position Overview:
The Diagnostics Technician will support operation of diagnostics equipment on General Fusion’s experimental testbeds. This role involves assembling, maintaining, refurbishing, and troubleshooting a range of complex optical, electrical, and mechanical systems.
The position is primarily on site at General Fusion's Richmond, BC facility, and may require occasional evening or weekend shift work or flexible hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble and troubleshoot optical, mechanical, electrical and electro-mechanical systems
- Fabricate optical fibers
- Perform precision mechanical assembly with small and sensitive components and parts
- Contribute input and suggestions for design and assembly procedures
- Complete basic electrical work, including soldering, multimeter use, and cable making
- Carry out calibration and data analysis
- Maintain a clean, organized lab, shop and workplace
- Prioritize personal and co-worker safety
Requirements:
- Completion of a post-secondary technical program in a directly related field (degree or diploma)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a shop or lab environment and/or working hands on with mechanical equipment
- Hands-on experience with lasers, optics, optomechanics, and/or fiber optics
- Hands-on experience with electronics, soldering, and electrical test equipment
- Excellent attention to detail and experience with precision assembly
- Experience and/or comfortable working in a fast-paced research and development environment
- Strong multi-disciplinary skillset with demonstrated experience in diagnosing, repairing and solving system/equipment challenges
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Comfortable with heights and climbing ladders/machine
- Ability to lift up to 20kg
- Comfortable with repetitive tasks
Preferred:
- Oscilloscope experience
- Experience working with optical fibers
- Familiarity with 3D printing (SLA or FDM)
- Computer Literacy (Excel, Outlook)
- Familiarity with 3D CAD design software (SolidWorks)
This role requires self-directed work that often is driven by employee initiative. The successful candidate will have the expertise to focus their attention on tasks that add value to the project at hand. The candidate must have experience in working with and safely moving large equipment.
The typical hiring range for this position is $74,000 - $88,000. General Fusion considers several factors when determining total compensation, including job-specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills, and experience, proficiency, job location, and internal equity.
