Electrical Supervisor

Overview of Responsibilities

The Role

As an Electrical Supervisor, you will provide engineering support to ensure the safe, compliant operation, maintenance, and enhancement of site power and low voltage control systems. You will lead small to medium work packages involving complex HV/LV equipment, including installations, modifications, technical studies, and the preparation of supporting documentation. You will also carry out fault finding, ensure robust technical solutions, and maintain the competency required to supervise work on electrical systems.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead electrical work undertaken by the Electrical Services Group, ensuring compliance with legislation, codes of practice, and safe delivery.
  • Supervise multidisciplinary teams including electrical staff (up to Level 4), agency workers, and external contractors in support of UKAEA operations.
  • Take full ownership of work packages, ensuring technical requirements are met and delivery is safe and cost-effective.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of assigned electrical systems, including design, specification, procurement, installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
  • Prepare and review engineering documentation such as procedures, risk assessments, method statements, and local rules.
  • Review supplier requirements and documentation, ensuring alignment with technical standards and Group budget constraints.
  • Provide technical assurance through analysis, calculations, and evaluation of electrical switchgear, cabling, and plant systems.
  • Support Project Engineers and act as equipment owner for plant/sub-systems, while mentoring and developing apprentice electricians.

The salary for this role is £43,702 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance).

Onsite working is expected 5 days a week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.

This role is based at the following site: Culham, Oxfordshire

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Qualified electrician with an electrical craft apprenticeship
  • BS7671 18th Edition pass
  • City & Guilds 2395 or equivalent (Testing & Inspection)
  • Significant work experience as an electrician in an industrial/commercial environment
  • Supervisory and leadership experience
  • Ability to work safely in accordance with a written safe system of work
  • Ability to solve problems, prioritise and to balance the workload
