In this role, you will have the chance to deepen your expertise by working at the forefront of high-power lasers. You will be a key person in designing and developing ultra-high intensity high-power laser system, and you will own dedicated projects or work packages for this development. Your contributions will significantly impact the development of our cutting-edge technology. You will bring solid expertise to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including those at Marvel Fusion. Furthermore, you will establish connections with external partners worldwide.

This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience in designing and developing laser (sub-)systems who would like to develop further within a multidisciplinary and multinational team.

Your Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in the development, assembly, and operation of key components for the next generation of highly efficient, high-average-power, ultra-intense lasers.
  • Perform calculations and simulations for a high-energy diode-pumped solid-state laser system and contribute to the overall laser system design.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team in designing and constructing laser (sub-)systems.
  • Interact with external partners to steer and monitor their performance, e.g., by working with our R&D Team and leading optics manufacturers to advance the current state of the art in optical technology.
  • Support the collection of requirements for the procurement of hardware, ranging from small, machined parts to large optical components from both local and international suppliers, and assist the procurement team throughout the sourcing process.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements and research trends in laser technologies by attending conferences and publishing findings in scientific journals.
  • Contribute to an inclusive and collaborative team environment in which all team members feel supported, valued, and heard.

What you bring

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Physics, Photonics, or a related field
    • For candidates with a Master’s degree, extensive professional experience is required
    • Postdoctoral research experience or an equivalent breadth and depth of expertise is considered a strong advantage
  • Expertise in setting up and operating high-power laser systems and diagnostic equipment
  • Experience with simulation tools for ultra-short, high-intensity laser systems
  • Professional experience in the industrial integration of laser systems or industrial manufacturing environments
  • Experience in applying industrial standards
  • Experience working with ultra-short laser pulses and large-scale optics is an advantage
  • Fluent in English
  • A high degree of flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive, can-do attitude
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • You are willing to reside in the greater Munich area
  • Willingness to travel
