Your Role

Focused Energy is looking for a Working Student to join the Laser Project Management Office (PMO). You'll support project governance, reporting, and process development, help run day-to-day project execution activities like retrospectives, reviews, and weekly meetings, and keep project documentation accurate and accessible for stakeholders. You'll also get the chance to run small-scope projects yourself, end to end, as their “project CEO.” This is a role for a student who wants real exposure to how a technical organization plans, tracks, and delivers complex work.

What You'll Do

  • Support project governance, reporting, and process development for the Laser PMO.
  • Assist with project execution by helping to run retrospectives, reviews, and weekly project meetings.
  • Facilitate recurring project meetings, ensuring they remain focused and productive.
  • Maintain up-to-date project documentation and ensure stakeholders receive the information they need, when they need it.
  • Take ownership of small-scope projects, managing them end to end as the "project CEO" for your area.
  • Help identify process gaps and propose improvements to how projects are tracked and reported.
  • Promptly flag risks, blockers, and open decisions to the PMO lead.

Who You Are

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Physics, Optics/Photonics, Laser Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Possess a basic understanding of optics, lasers, or experimental physics through coursework or laboratory experience.
  • Comfortable working hands-on with hardware, demonstrating careful, precise, and methodical handling of sensitive components.
  • Able to reliably follow structured procedures and safety protocols (e.g., cleanroom or laboratory procedures).
  • Have a basic familiarity with electronics and measurement equipment, such as oscilloscopes, power meters, or similar devices.
  • Reliable, organized, proactive, and eager to learn in a hands-on lab environment.
  • Strong communication skills in English.
