Kurchatov Institute
The Kurchatov Institute is a multi-disciplinary research institution based in Moscow, Russia, originally known as Leningrad's Physics-Technical Institute. As Russia's leading research and development institution in the field of nuclear energy, the Kurchatov Institute conducts scientific research and development in various physics fields, including fusion energy, nanotechnology, genomics, bioinformatics, cognitive research, radiology and radioecology.

T-15MD

The T-15MD tokamak is an upgrade of its predecessor, the T-15 tokamak. The "MD" in T-15MD stands for "Modified Divertor." The original T-15 device was disassembled in 2017. Many components were upgraded and modernized for the T-15MD including the plasma heating and current drives.
The T-15MD was physically launched in May of 2021 and achieved its first stable plasma in 2023.
