The Kurchatov Institute is a multi-disciplinary research institution based in Moscow, Russia, originally known as Leningrad's Physics-Technical Institute. T-15MD

Description

The T-15MD tokamak is an upgrade of its predecessor, the T-15 tokamak. The "MD" in T-15MD stands for "Modified Divertor." The original T-15 device was disassembled in 2017. Many components were upgraded and modernized for the T-15MD including the plasma heating and current drives.

The T-15MD was physically launched in May of 2021 and achieved its first stable plasma in 2023.
