We've dug into our own dataset to see what the numbers say about fusion hiring so far in 2026. We track jobs from 49 fusion organizations across 15 countries, crawling their job boards multiple times per day. Since late January 2026, we've catalogued 1,065 unique positions. Here's what we found.

As of today, Helion Energy leads with 127 open positions, followed by SHINE (59), Commonwealth Fusion Systems (44), and Pacific Fusion (40). Notably, the graph shows a steady increase in open jobs since we started recording historical job data in January 2026.

What Disciplines Are in Demand?

Jobs by discipline

Physics leads as expected, but look at the next tiers. Mechanical and electrical engineering together (220 positions) outnumber physics (194). The industry is building hardware, and it needs the engineers to do it.

The strong showing from business roles (65) and project management (50) tells a similar story: these companies are planning for the long term, beyond just R&D.

How Fast Do Positions Fill?

Because we crawl every few hours, we can measure how long a job posting stays active before it comes down. We have some preliminary data on this topic, but since we have only been comprehensively tracking job data for about six weeks, this isn't quite ready to share yet. A Note on Our Data

This analysis covers January 22 to March 18, 2026. Our jobs crawler currently monitors 49 organizations, which we believe covers most of the active fusion employers, but certainly not all of them. Inclusion on the Fusion Energy Base Jobs Board is currently free. If your organization contributes to fusion and has a website listing fusion-related jobs, we want to include you.

To check if we list your organization's jobs:

Visit our jobs board and search for your organization in the field labeled "Organization or Keyword". If your jobs don't appear, send us an email with a link to your jobs page and we'll take it from there.

For organizations that want more visibility:

Our Affiliate program gives your job listings priority placement at the top of fusionenergybase.com/jobs, along with an affiliate badge, a published interview, and more. Affiliates' open positions are the first thing candidates see when they come looking for fusion jobs.
